It is estimated that 3 million Americans have glaucoma…. but only half of them know it.
What are risk factors for glaucoma:
–Age– the older we get the higher the risk
–Ethnicity– African Americans and people of Asian decent have the highest risk
– Family History– Do you have a sibling or parent with glaucoma?
–Medical conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure can increase your risk
– History of eye injury or Steroid use
Everyone over the age of 45 should have an annual dilated eye exam to check for this. Glaucoma if caught early enough can prevent vision loss and be very treatable.
