Mites may be living in your eyelashes

Demodex mites are tiny, eight-legged parasites that can infest the hair follicles and oil glands of mammals, including humans. While Demodex mites are naturally present on the skin of many individuals without causing any problems, in some cases, they can multiply excessively and lead to skin and eye issues. Signs of this can be itchy, dry eyes, flakes on the lashes ( blepharitis), redness. Special care should be taken to clean lashes with false extensions to prevent infestation.

Tea tree oil, derived from the leaves of the tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia), has been used for various medicinal purposes, including as a natural remedy for skin conditions. Specially formulated tea tree oil-based cleansers are recommended to address Demodex mite infestations, particularly in the area around the eyes.

Tea tree oil has been found to have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, which may help reduce the population of Demodex mites and alleviate associated symptoms such as itching, redness, and irritation.
